About the event
Rope Study Group: Partial Suspensions
Rope Study Group is a four week, in person rope class
that focuses on a specific set of skills for the four week session.
You did not have to attend previous sessions to attend this four week series.
However, this is not a 101 level class and prior knowledge is mandatory.
Please read the prerequisites to make sure this class is right for you.
Prerequisite Skills:
- For the tying person: Fundamentals (knowledge of tension, single column tie, double column tie, frictions, and latches) and ability to consistently tie a suspendable chest harness.
- For the being-tied person: Body awareness, ability to communicate under physical and/or mental stress, and knowledge of harnesses that do and do not work for you.
What will you learn?
This series will focus on developing an understanding of how the body moves with uplines and while partially suspended. Each week, we will focus on a sequence that teaches body manipulation, upline management, rope handling, and problem solving. These classes are taught from both the top and bottom perspective and focus on building partial suspension skills for rope scenes/play.
Cost: $25 per person for the entire series
Dates: August 21st, August 28th, September 4th, September 11th
Time: 7pm-9pm. We will start promptly at 7pm.
Location: The Woodshed Red Dungeon
Expectations
- By registering for this course, you are agreeing to attend all four classes. Please do not sign up if you are not able to attend all four classes as each class will build on the knowledge shared in the previous class.
- By registering, you are agreeing to set time aside each week to practice. This class will introduce a new skill or concept each week and it's important to practice what you learn.
- By registering, you are acknowledging that you know the prerequisite skills needed for this class.
- Please come to class on time. We will start promptly at 7pm.
What if I don't have a bottom/top?
This class will not be self-tier friendly. Though some elements can be applied for self-tying, this class is taught from the perspective of a tying pair. Tops with bottoms not able to come are welcomed to self-tie what they are able and take notes to apply to home practice/lab time.
Do I need rope?
Since this is an intermediate level class, you are expected to have your own rope kit that is conditioned and can be used for suspension.
What else should I bring?
Please bring a notebook and writing utensil, a rope cutting tool, rope, and a carabiner or ring that can support dynamic load (carabiners weight rated for rock climbing are available on Amazon or at REI. Wooden gymnast rings or metal rings made for rope suspension also work. Metal rings are available for purchase at the Woodshed). If you need help or have questions about cutting tools, carabiners, rings, or rope, please message @12cats and @nevertheless.
